There was an outpouring of love at Mountain View Elementary School on Saturday.

There was an outpouring of love at Mountain View Elementary School on Saturday.

More than 150 union members from across the state participated in Labor of Love, an annual union give-back project created from the Hawaii State AFL-CIO’s desire to be a positive force in supporting the community.

This year’s event helped revitalize the Mountain View campus by painting facilities, fixing the basketball court and playground equipment, landscaping and more. At Mountain View Elementary School, 98 percent of its 565 students are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program. On Monday, Mountain View students gathered for a mahalo assembly to share their thanks and appreciation with the labor volunteers.

Volunteers for this event represented several local unions, including the Hawaii State AFL-CIO, Laborers International, IAM, HGEA Local 1186, UPW, ILWU, Masons Local 1, OPEIU, District Council 50, HSTA, Sheet Metal Workers Local 293 and IBEW Local 1260.
